What are the top Ten Allergy-Safe Snacks for School?

Allergy-safe snacks for school

Everyone's favorite time at school is lunch and recess, but going to lunch with food allergies can be scary. It is important to have lots of snack options for yourself or your child so they feel equal to others, and they don’t feel tempted to eat others' tasty snacks. On days when kids are sharing snacks, it's always important to have all allergen-safe foods, specifically clear of the top 9 allergens. At the end of the day, parents don't always want to make a homemade snack, so things like fruits and vegetables are always a safe option. Let's jump into some of my personal favorite allergy-safe snacks for school.

Fruits and Vegetables are Great Allergy-Safe Snacks for School

Though kids may not agree, fruits and vegetables make an amazing snack. The crunchiness of a carrot, the sweet flavor of a strawberry, or the citrusy smell of an orange. Finger foods are always a great option for the little ones. Make it fun by bringing a slice of watermelon still with the rind rather than chopping it up small or even using special cutters to create special-shaped fruits! On Amazon, you can find many different tools to cut your fruit and vegetables into shapes like robots, dogs, and even flowers. Allergy safe snacks for school can be both fun and healthy!

If you have the time, create fruit popsicles. I particularly like this recipe; however, I switch out the dairy yogurt for oat milk yogurt. Rather than bringing in ice cream, let kids get their healthy fruit in popsicle form! You can even make it a fun learning experience for your child and have them cook with you. Or don't let them know it's healthy and have it be a fun surprise when they get to school! Another safe and tasty option is applesauce; now they make many different flavored applesauces!

Chips and Crackers

Moving on to the good stuff that all kids want… junk food! One of the hardest things for a child with food allergies is not feeling accepted when they compare themselves and their snacks to their friends. They want to have the fun chips and cookies that everyone else has! So here are some of my personal favorites.

Hippeas

Hippeas are an amazing brand of chips made from chickpeas, free of the top nine allergens. They come in many different flavors, including the ones that most people with allergens can't have, like ranch! They come in tortilla chips, popcorn, and even puffs! They are vegan and full of plant-based protein! Always double check the ingredients, but these are sure to be a hit at any party or lunch.

Madegood “Cheese” Crackers

Madegood is an amazing brand full of many different options that are free of the top nine allergens. Closely resembling Cheez-its, the star puffed crackers are a class favorite. Not only are they a fun shape, but they are guaranteed to make any child with food allergies feel included in the fun! Another top hit for Allergy-safe snacks for school.

Enjoy Life Chips

Enjoy Life is an incredible brand free of the top nine allergens made in Canada. One of their hit snacks is their lentil chips, which come in different flavors including barbeque, salt and vinegar, dairy-free cheese, classic, and more! They have the perfect crunch and add the perfect amount of flavor to any kid's lunch. They are an endless advocate for those with food allergies. Later on in the sweets category, we will discuss their delicious chocolate chips!

Sweets

SunButter Jammies (Uncrustable Sandwiches)

Everyone knows and loves Uncrustables; however, those with food allergies have never experienced the wonderful taste and fun of having no crust. Recently, SunButter released its own version of Uncrustables, including sunflower seed butter and grape jelly, or even a strawberry version. Both of these are nut free; however, they contain soy and wheat. This is another allergy-safe snack for school that will make children feel equal to the rest. You can't even tell the difference between this version and the other! These could also be homemade by the parent with things like apple butter or pumpkin butter if wanted! If you make them at home, they could also be cut into fun shapes.

SunButter

Sunbutter can be used for many different snacks, including dipping pretzels in, making cookies, jammies (as seen above), or just eating plain! It has all the creamy taste of peanut butter without hurting anyone who may have food allergies. When a child is allergic to peanut butter is important that they do not come in contact with it. Instead of making children sit separately, advocate to do a simple change from peanut butter to sunbutter!

Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips

I told you Enjoy Life would be back! Enjoy Life makes many different chocolate chips, which are great for snacking or using in recipes! They come in different shapes and sizes depending on your preference. The morsels are perfect for snacking. You could also combine these with your sunbutter to make something delicious! Cookies with Enjoy Life chocolate chips are always a hit. Whether you make a recipe or just simply eat them plain, any kid will be happy with Enjoy Life.

Desserts

Lunch is never over without some sort of tasty dessert! Some of the sweets we discussed earlier could always be thrown into the dessert category, but let's discuss strictly allergen free desserts that your kids are going to love!

Partake

Much like Enjoy Life, Partake is a very popular brand in the food allergy world! They are free of the top nine allergens and create multiple different snacks that your child is guaranteed to love.  My personal favorite is the chocolate chip cookies and the lemon flavor! Not only are they delicious but safe for those with food allergies!

Red Plate Foods

Another great option for cookies and cookie sandwiches is Red Plate Foods! Not only do they have cookie sandwiches, but you can find cookies, cupcakes, muffins and even granola! They are guaranteed to be a hit with any kid during lunch! When you don't feel like making homemade desserts, throw in a couple of desserts from Red Plate Foods.

So now we know what the top ten allergy-safe snacks are for school

School lunch doesnt have to be daunting for kids, make it fun with this list of tasty snacks. It is important when shopping to always double check the ingredients to make sure they fit your childs needs. A safe bet will always be to get something free of the top nine allergen like products from Red Plate Foods, Partake or EnjoyLife. Happy Snacking!
